Overview
Suburban Calcutta in the late 1990s produced three inseparable friends — Dhananjay, Durjaya, and Daksh Ray, the DRs — each pointed toward something remarkable. Dhananjay was writing algorithms when the world was panicking about Y2K; Durjaya had local celebrity for his football; Daksh was climbing through the county cricket circuit. They were prodigies in waiting, holding each other up through the usual chaos of growing up.
Then 2014 arrives, and someone shoots Dhananjay.
Amlan Ray's debut novel uses the long arc of friendship to ask what happens when fate intervenes violently in lives that were already in motion. Where is Durjaya when it matters most?
