ISHWARA PERVADES EVERYTHING

byAjoy Bharadwaj

ईशा वास्यमिदं सर्वम्

A seeker's commentary on the Isha Upanishad, illuminated through the lives of Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, and Ramana Maharshi.

Overview

Eighteen verses. That is all the Isha Upanishad contains — and yet those verses have drawn commentaries from Shankaracharya, Sri Aurobindo, and Swami Vivekananda across more than a millennium. The opening line alone — ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वम् — carries a claim so total it reshapes how everything else is seen: all of this is pervaded by the Lord.

Ajoy Bharadwaj approaches this text not as a scholar cataloguing interpretations but as a seeker working through the verses with the help of those who lived them. Drawing on the Bhagavatam and on the lives of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, and Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, the commentary builds its arguments through stories and analogies rather than abstract philosophical terminology. Where the Upanishad speaks of renunciation without abandonment, of action without desire, of the Self that knows no death, Bharadwaj looks to the realized ones for evidence of what these states actually look like in a human life.

For those new to Vedantic study, the grounding in concrete example makes the abstract accessible. For those already familiar with the text, the devotional lens offers a reading that supplements rather than replaces the classical commentaries.

-:ABOUT THE BOOK:- "We have to cover everything with the Lord Himself; not by a false sort of optimism, not by blinding our eyes to the evil, but by really seeing God in everything." - Swami Vivekananda "Synthesis of knowledge, synthesis of dharma, reconciliation and harmony of the opposites form the very soul of this Upanishad." - Sri Aurobindo ꧁༺✿༻꧂ "ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वम् - 'All this is pervaded by Bhagavan.' These opening words of the Isha Upanishad invite the seeker into a space of deep reflection and surrender. This book is a humble commentary on that ancient wisdom-not as a scholar's discourse, but as a seeker's heartfelt journey through the verses. Drawing inspiration from the Bhagavatam, the lives of saints like Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda, and Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi, this work attempts to illuminate the essence of the Isha Upanishad through stories, analogies, and personal insights. The intent is to make the profound accessible, and the abstract relatable by anchoring it in the lived experiences of the realized ones. This book seeks to be a companion on the reader's spiritual path. Above all, this is a bird under the shade of the vast banyan of eternal wisdom. ꧁༺✿༻꧂
