The Ramayana

Children aged three to six encounter the Ramayana long before they can read it. What they need is a way in — something that lets them handle the story through activities that match their actual cognitive and physical development.

Dr. Rao GS designed this activity book as the first in a two-volume series. This volume, for younger children, introduces the Ramayana through storytelling, colouring, and crafts. The Ayodhya Rama Game embedded in the book is built around numeracy, visual perception, physical coordination, and social play — skills children at this stage are actively developing. The volume closes with simple prayer shlokas that children can memorise, giving them an early and natural connection to the devotional dimension of the epic. The companion volume, for children aged seven to twelve who can read and write independently, picks up where this one leaves off.
