Proxy War

The Counter Moves

Two children witness a murder in an abandoned mill, triggering a chain of criminal alliances that pulls the Army into an undeclared war.

Overview

Two children wander into an abandoned mill and witness a murder. What follows is not a mystery — it is a hunt. The don whose secret they have seen sends henchmen after them, and the children's flight sets off a chain of events that escalates far beyond one crime in one building.

Sudip Talukdar structures Proxy War as an expansion of stakes: a local criminal's desire to eliminate witnesses draws him into alliances with politicians and drug lords, which in turn makes Army personnel the targets of a narcotics-funded operation. What began as a witness problem becomes a covert conflict between forces sworn to protect the country and those determined to destabilize it. The thriller moves through its escalations with the precision of a chess match — each move answering the last, building toward a climax that justifies every prior complication.

An innocent foray into an abandoned mill turns into a living nightmare for a couple of children, when they witness a horrific murder. Both of them flee the spot, chased by the dreaded don's henchmen. Later, the don, extremely upset by his still elusive quarries, resorts to desperate measures to ensure his own survivability and power. He ties up with politicians and makes a deal with notorious drug lords, to target Army personnel. It escalates into an untold war between the opposing forces, one sworn to defend the land and the other equally bent on destabilizing it. The cloak and dagger operation, like crafty moves on a chessboard, builds up to a shattering climax.
